Google Photos on desktop - Albums & links

(Please also see the intro video "Adding a Linked Album to a Collection" in the Help category: Basic Concepts.)

You will first need a Google account.  If you already have one, then you have access to other Google apps, including Google Photos.

If You Do Not Have a Google Account

Go to www.google.com and create an account. On a desktop, when logged in, you’ll see your profile image or icon in the top right corner of the screen, and just left of it nine dots they call their Apps Launcher.  The Apps Launcher contains many Google Apps that come with the registration, including Google Photos.  This is how you navigate to Google Photos.

If You Have a Google Account but Have Not Used Google Photos

Once you’re signed in, simply follow the instructions presented (whether on a desktop or mobile) to start uploading your photos and videos. This can take a while if you have a lot of images and videos, so maybe you just want to let it run for a while and then come back to organizing.  You can upload photos from your phone via the mobile app or from your computer using the desktop app.

Once You Have Photos in Google Photos App

Written Instructions On A Desktop

  • Open Google Photos by clicking on the Google apps block (9-dot-square icon near your profile image on top right) and clicking on the Photos icon
  • Click on Albums in left column
  • Click on "+ Create album"
  • Add a title
  • Tap on + Select photos, tap on photos you want to add, select ADD
  • You can also add photos from your computer via the Select from computer link at top next to “DONE”
  • Tap DONE when selection completed
  • Note… If you already have your photos organized on your desktop into folders, and want these folders to each represent a Google Album, then use this same process and select all the photos in that folder for the Album.  The photos will go into the App, sorted by date, so they might be hard to find as a group unless you create an Album and upload from the folder when creating it.

You’ll return to the Album summary page where by clicking on More Options (3 vertical dots top right corner) you can Set album cover (this will be used by MyFamilyArchive for the preview photo), add or re-sort photos, add captions, or add a location tag if you’d like by clicking the icons top right.. Then click the top left check mark to complete the Album

To get the Share URL, you will need to do two things. First click the top right three-dot icon to get the share feature.  Click on Create link, and copy the link for pasting into your Collectionarey Linked Album.
