Record an Audio File and Link to your Collection

Most of the options below produce an MP3 file which can then be uploaded to a cloud site like DropBox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc. and then linked to your collection via a Share Link.

1.  Audio File Only - If you simply want to record audio of someone speaking and telling a story, we suggest the following:

a) You can use your computer with a program like Apple QuickTime and a headset/microphone and record the story, saving as an MP3 file.

b) You can simply use your phone and record an MP3 file. Some mobile phones come with an audio app, and there are many downloadable free apps for iOS and Android phones such as QuickVoice and Voice Memos.

c) A third alternative is a major app called StoryCorps, which is a world of its own... it gives you questions to use in interviewing people and will give you an MP3 copy of the audio while also submitting a copy of the recording to the Library of Congress.

2) Audio Comments attached to a Photo - If you wish to have a loved one record a story connected to a photo, you might try the app called StoryGlory.  It allows you to upload a photo then record audio that is attached to the photo. The only concern here is how permanent this solution is as it is a somewhat new app and the resulting file is stored on their site and you link to that. Another similar one is JoyFlips, but we have the same concerns here. If you can link to these and also make sure you have a backed up copy of the audio, then these are great options.
